A couple early fall movies that could be two of the more memorable films of the season are heading to IMAX. The company announced that Sony's Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs and Warner Bros.' Where The Wild Things Are will both be shown in its theaters nationwide this September and October, respectively.

Sony hasn't worked with IMAX in over two years, since Spider-Man 3, but the audiences are more interested in the IMAX option now than they were even such a short time ago. Warner Bros., of course, has had a long, fruitful relationship with the large-screen exhibitor, with Watchmen and Dark Knight being two of the key releases in the past couple of years.
The news of Chance of Meatballs and Wild Things comes a couple of weeks before IMAX announces its second quarter earnings, which would include Watchmen, Night at the Museum, and Star Trek. Analysts are predicting the first quarterly profit for IMAX in three years.
The news gets even better in the fourth quarter of 2009: IMAX has already secured A Christmas Carol and Avatar, which should signal a strong close to its most Hollywood year ever. Now if only IMAX could guarantee that enormous screen in every location...
