Monday, July 27, 2009 at 8:49AM Kunis vs. Portman in Darren Aronofsky's 'Black Swan'
Mila Kunis has seen her star rise rather quickly in the last couple of years. Most of that, I think, is based on her disarming performance in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and she's also showed up in Max Payne, and has roles in Mike Judge's Extract and The Hughes Brothers' The Book of Eli, as well as Date Night with Tina Fey and Steve Carell.

But Kunis is about to take a big step forward out of easily defined genre movies, joining Natalie Portman in Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan. The Hollywood Reporter indicates that Kunis, who turns 26 next month, will play Portman's nemesis, who may or may not be real, as Portman prepares for a big ballet performance.
This is no doubt the biggest stage for Kunis' acting so far, so I guess we'll learn if she's up to the task of working with a director like Aronofsky and opposite an actress like Portman. Kunis is pretty good as the pretty girl in comedies, but that's really all she's been qualified for so far; I don't think Max Payne is anything you can judge her on.
Black Swan is expected to shoot this fall in New York. And it better be good: This movie is reportedly the reason Aronofsky's RoboCop remake might be delayed a little while.

Sadly, ours is not a perfect world.
in a perfect world this movie's climax would involve these two characters settling their disputes in a kiddie pool full of ky-jelly.
