Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at 3:01PM Coens, Drew, Herzog, Michael Moore Set for Toronto
Activity for the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival is starting to heat up, with several key additions joining the list of North American or world premieres at what is, in my opinion, the best bang for your film festival buck if you're just into watching a ton of new movies.

We already discussed the late night programming, which will include Jennifer's Body, but now we're learning that the new films from the Coen Brothers, werner Herzog, Michael Moore, and director Drew Barrymore. You heard me. The Coens will unveil A Serious Man, which is probably the brothers' least showy movie ever. The biggest name in the cast is probably Adam Arkin, so that should tell you something. Don't let the title fool you, though; it's rumored that A Serious Man is anything but.
Michael Moore's econumentary, Capitalism: A Love Story will debut in Toronto, as will Herzog's Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans, which is not a remake or a sequel, exactly. That one will be trying to land a distributor while it's showcased at the festival; it's already set for some foreign markets, but in the U.S. it hasn't had any takers.
And then there's Barrymore's Whip It, which might not seem important enough for a festival, but only to people who take film festivals way too seriously. Plus, it stars Canadian treasure Ellen Page, so it's a natural as far I can see.
We'll keep updating the Toronto schedule as often as we can. The festival runs September 10th - 19th.
