From that hotbed of movie news, PokerListings.com, comes an update about an unlikely sequel: Rounders 2. There is talk of a second film, all right, with writer David Levien saying "ideas are percolating" about another chapter. But he's not the only one who thinks it's a good idea.

Matt Damon tells the site he doesn't see any problem bringing the whole gang back together once (or if) a great story comes together. It's not often you hear a guy with his pick of interesting projects bring up a stagnant property like this, but Damon seems eager to revisit Rounders:

"Everybody would probably come back. The actors all had a really good time working together. I know Edward [Norton] would want to do it; we had a blast working together. [Director] John Dahl I'm sure would like to do it. Maybe someday it will happen. The only reason to do a movie like that would be if we had a great idea. If the two writers suddenly said, 'Eureka! We have a great idea.' Then everyone involved would be interested in exploring it." If you paid attention, you would have noticed that Damon didn't specifically mention John Malkovich, who played the Russian mobster Teddy KGB in the first film, and gave every bad movie accent ever a run for its money. Maybe by saying "the actors all had a really good time," Damon implies Malkovich could be up for it. If nothing else, he might like a shot at fixing that accent. That raises an interesting question about franchises: If you've got a guy with a characterization that's memorable only because it's so bad, whether it's Teddy KGB or the Batman voice in The Dark Knight, does fixing it the next time around admit some failure in the previous movie? Would it be more admirable to bring Malkovich back and have him miss the mark so completely with that accent a second time?
