'The Hangover' Getting a Bollywood Facelift
Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at 11:16PM
What happens in Punjab stays in Punjab: The Hangover is going Bollywood. Roll
your eyes all want - and I agree on first glance this is a weird fit - but now it kind of makes some sense
to me.

First, the specifics: Some sources say producer Feroze Nadiadwala will bring a new version of The Hangover
to the Indian market, with Sajid Khan set to direct and Akshay Kumar (Chandi Chowk to China)
proposed to star. But there is another group in the mix, with producer Dinesh Vijan claiming Warner Bros.
has contacted his Illuminati Productions about handling the remake. So it looks like there might be a bit
of a tug-of-war for a little while.
So why do I think this makes sense? You've seen The Hangover, right? It's full of non sequiturs from
Mike Tyson to the chicken to the tiger in the bathroom to the baby to the missing tooth. Those are the
things that make the best comedy of the year go, go, go.
And where better to find humorous non sequiturs than Bollywood? Nobody understands them anyway. Musical numbers break out at a moment's notice, for crying out loud. This is perfectly suited for the Indian makeover. So why should this bother you? It's not like you're ever going to see it.
