Thursday, July 30, 2009 at 7:45PM Matt Damon in the New Poster for 'The Informant!'
This fall, Matt Damon will star in Steven Soderbergh's The Informant!. And yes, the exclamation point is part of the official title. There's a good but unexpected cast supporting Damon, including Tony Hale, Joel McHale, Patton Oswalt, Clancy Brown, and even Scott Bakula.

About a month ago, we showed you the trailer, which is one of the best of the year, in my opinion. Very funny and it doesn't reveal so much that you think it's giving everything away. Damon plays a whistleblower, we know that much, and based on the trailer, this one steals a few plays from the Coen Bros. handbook. That's a compliment, by the way.
Now Yahoo! has a new poster for the film, which we're equally pleased with. I like when a poster can convey a mood or a sensibility rather than just splashing the lead actors up there with just the title. And there's a big Saul Bass influence here, a style that came back in vogue last summer when the posters for Burn After Reading were released. Those were better, but I dig this, too.

Curiously, both the trailer and the poster say the movie's coming out in September, but we still show an October 9th opening date. My guess is they'll wait a little while longer before picking a late September weekend to open the film in New York, and then roll it out nationwide on the 9th of October.
