Thursday, July 30, 2009 at 1:15AM New Trailer for Charlize Theron in 'The Burning Plain'
I'm going to say something that could absolutely wreck your enjoyment of the trailer
for The Burning Plain: What is up with all the fades to black? It's about every two seconds in this
thing. I felt like I was contracting some rare form of glaucoma.

However, we're showing you the trailer because it's the directorial debut of Guillermo Arriaga, the writer
of the three films directed by Alejandro Gonzales Inarritu, Amores Perros, 21 Grams, and
Babel. He wrote this film, as well, and he's attracted Charlize Theron and Kim Basinger for his
multi-generational family drama.
Yeah, it's not the ambitious kind of thing we're used to from Arriaga, and it hits theaters in September,
about a year after it debuted in Venice. Maybe you've caught it at one of the many film festivals that has
featured Arriaga's debut in the past several months. If not, this trailer's for you:

Those fades to black are there to mimic the number of times your eyelids will shut as you try in vain to stay awake watching this film.
