Box Office - 'Ice Age' and 'Transformers' Close Again
Saturday, July 4, 2009 at 1:02PM
You wouldn't have thought it would be such an interesting battle, but the head-to-
head between Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs is one
of the closest box office races of the year.

On Wednesday and Thursday, the films went back and forth, each claiming the top spot for a day, and
Transformers narrowly won Friday, according to estimates from Box Office Mojo. Still, Ice
Age has outpaced the giant robots over the course of the first three days of its run, with almost $42
million to just over $40 million. Transformers ought to be the bigger film on Saturday, which
should be enough to put it over the top for the three-day and the five-day counts.
Revenge of the Fallen is slipping substantially, however, and might not make $50 million this
weekend, which would point to a slower run from $300 million to $400 million with the arrival of
Bruno and Harry Potter in the next two weeks.
Public Enemies is doing OK, but it's nothing to get excited about. The gangster movie has pulled in
$25 million counting Friday, and is pacing for a $26 - $28 million weekend, putting its five-day total
around $45 million.
We'll wrap up the weekend totals tomorrow and see if Ice Age can keep the momentum going.
