Jackie Earle Haley Signed for 'Elm Street' Trilogy

Unlike every other horror movie reboot, A Nightmare on Elm Street has to get its casting exactly right. You have a luxury with the guys behind hockey masks, but with Freddy Krueger, you can't miss it at all, or the entire movie will fail. In the case of this title, the entire franchise would fail, because Platinum Dunes wants multiple sequels.

The good news is that Jackie Earle Haley will play Freddy in next April's relaunch, and now Bloody Disgusting has caught up with Haley, who says he's in it for the long haul. "Two more," Haley admitted, before holding up three fingers for more confirmation.

Now, who knows if any of these movies will be any good, but we know enough about horror movies and sequels in general to be more excited about the first one than the second or third installments. If there's one good thing about reinventing an entire franchise, it's that the writers and producers can look at the past to see what's worked and what hasn't and only focus on the good stuff.

The Platinum Dunes remakes have been a lot more miss than hit, although Friday the 13th had the most life of any of them so far. Nightmare is a much better and more inventive movie, so if they work at it, this new version could be something to see. And having Jackie Earle Haley locked up for trilogy is the best first step they can take.
