'Resident Evil: Afterlife' Coming Next September
Saturday, July 4, 2009 at 1:01AM
When we talked to Paul W.S. Anderson last year and asked him a little bit about the
business behind his movies, he laid out exactly how much money a Resident Evil flick could make
when all the beans are counted. And now Shock Till You Drop says a fourth movie in the Resident
Evil series is only about a year away.

The only real surprise in the announcement is the release date, just because we hadn't heard any concrete updates about its progress from Anderson or anybody else, but Resident Evil: Afterlife is a go.
I doubt Anderson will direct it; he hasn't been behind the camera for the past two installments, though he has remained on as a writer and producer while his fiancee Milla Jovovich has, of course, been the face of the franchise.
Will Milla be aboard the fourth one? Why not? It seems a little silly to embark on a new chapter without her at this point. Maybe if they waited a few years first, but they're clearly hoping to keep some momentum going.
If we're looking at a September release, that means this should be in production in the next six months or so, if not a couple months sooner. As far as I'm concerned, it's still a series that has some legs, and was actually better the third time around than the second. The storyline will have to jump somewhere new, but that's probably for the best, too.
