Blah Red Band Clip from 'The Ugly Truth'
Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at 1:04AM
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say The Ugly Truth will only go so far as Gerard Butler takes it. He's not exactly going to string together a bunch of these romantic comedies, even if they are R-rated.

Like it or not, this really is Katherine Heigl's true calling, and she's not half bad at it. So whether or not the movie is tailored for her strengths, she'll have another one just like it in a year or two without tarnishing her image.
I'm going on this limb because there's a new Red Band clip from The Ugly Truth and Butler...dines in Hell. Not his most spectacular moment. If it's 90 minutes of this guy, the ugly truth won't be hard to spot.
We'll see The Ugly Truth in theaters on July 24th.

I'm watching this movie because of Butler.
I'm not watching this movie because I don't see the entertainment value of a film that tells women to cater to men's often debasing whims just so they can land a man (like they have no self worth otherwise). Studio execs must think women are pretty stupid to greenlight this drivel. Women who pay to see it should get some self esteem.
Besides, Butler and Heigl seem to be playing themselves. I guess we should all get paid millions to be ourselves.
I don't particularly like "raunch" (as a noun)...but since Gerard Butler's in this movie, I'll not just see it once, but many times!!!! I think it looks hilarious!!!! Rom-coms are what they are: they're not Ken Burns' documentaries, they're not deep, psychological arthouse films...they're entertainment for people who like romance and the paths the protagonists choose to get the end result. Pseudo-sophisticated cosmopolites may like Daniel Day-Lewis fimls for their brutal , raw, depressing scenarios, but I prefer a good comedy about the battle of the sexes now and then. Who's to say what is "good" anyway. "Transformers 2" (which one would have to pay me to see) was given an average of "D" by reviewers..yet the fourteen-year-old boys made it a blockbuster. Many of the Oscar-nominated films were boring and gut-ripping...to what purpose?
I love Gerard Butler and his acting...I think he and Katherine have good chemistry together from the trailers. Some of my favorites never were received true Oscars either: Cary Grant..Errol Flynn...Jeffrey Chandler..(I'm not THAT old but I appreciate the earlier actors...
Go see it and give it a chance!!! The first time i saw Butler in "Attila", he stole my heart. I cannot wait for TUT and Gamer.
Studio executives do think women are stupid. See He's Just Not That Into You or wait until Valentine's Day next year. Women are only supposed to want to get married, according to Hollywood.
Gerard Butler is the sexiest man on the planet. He's funny, too. I'll definitely go see this movie and probably more than once. He's worth it!!!
Looks like we have a wise man posting on this site. Thanks Colin.
