Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at 6:17AM The Other 'Inglorious Bastards' Gets Blu-ray Release
You see this all the time, where a remake or a TV spin-off is headed to theaters and the gun is jumped by a DVD release of the original film or the TV show. That DVD will come out three days or ten days early in hopes of picking up a few sales on the strength of all the promotion for the new movie.

That brings us to the new DVD and Blu-ray for Inglorious Bastards. Though the spelling is all his, Inglourious Basterds is not entirely Quentin Tarantino's idea. The first Bastards - directed by Enzo Castellari and spelled correctly - was released in 1978 and featured a similar story and more than a shred of the style QT is trying to emulate this summer.
It's only fitting that Tarantino will be on the bonus features of the DVD, just as Tarantino has cameos by Castellari and star Bo Svenson in his Basterds. Svenson was also in Tarantino's Kill Bill, another tip of the cap from the director, who liberally borrows from tons of movies, almost gleefully. It's a big part of how his style keeps evolving, actually.
The Blu-ray bonus features include such favorites as Inglorious Reunion At The New Beverly, Enzo’s 70th Birthday Party In L.A., and the making-of documentary Train Kept A-Rollin'.
Severin Films will release Inglorious Bastards on DVD on July 28th, and the new film follows a few weeks later on August 21st.
