'Basterds' Poster, Run Time, and Weinstein Rant
Thursday, July 9, 2009 at 4:42PM
Curious week for Inglourious Basterds, although you may not have heard much about it. First, there's the running time. It was rumored that to accommodate American audiences, some stuff would be cut out of QT's WWII movie, but Tarantino tells Variety the movie will actually be a minute longer in the U.S.

“It might sound weird that I added a minute, but you can add little things and actually quicken the pace, and we were very aware of keeping the pace up. To add the one scene, I reduced a couple scenes by a line here, a line there.”
Elsewhere, the likely-to-run-hot Harvey Weinstein made a string of unusual comments about the film to GQ, while admitting everyone wants a prequel.

"It isn't funny; it isn't exciting; it isn't a realistic war movie, yet neither is it an entertaining genre spoof or a clever counterfactual wartime yarn...Brad Pitt gives the worst performance of his life, with a permanent smirk as if he's had the left side of his jaw injected with cement, and which he must uncomfortably maintain for long scenes on camera without dialogue."OK then. Meanwhile, a new poster with Pitt's cemented smirk has popped up at Yahoo!, so take a look:

Harvey weinstein said that? and he's producing it? is he joking? either that or he really is the biggest asshole of all time.
He's quoting the bad review from the Guardian. Strange, it's like an inside joke, but I can't imagine a man at the helm of a floundering company would say something so harmful to his business. It's funny though.
Maybe they should shelve the movie and reshoot it with Tom Cruise instead of Brad Pitt?...
