Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at 9:07AM Will Arnett, Mitch Hurwitz Join Forces on Non-'Arrested Development' Comedy
It's too early to say what impact this might have on the proposed-but-by-no-means-charging-forward Arrested Development movie, but that show's creator, Mitch Hurwitz, is teaming with co-executive producer Jim vallely and the notorious GOB, Will Arnett on another film.

There's no title yet and no director for the trio's project, but The Hollywood Reporter says Arnett would play "a rich Beverly Hills jackass who falls in love with a charitable tree-hugging woman who can't stand his lifestyle or values."
I'm a big admirer of Arnett's, but I think I prefer him as a supporting character than as a lead. I don't begrudge him trying, though. And his star has certainly been on the rise since Development went off the air between voicework in animated projects, guest stints on TV, and loads of features films (not all of them terribly memorable), so it's hard to say there's no demand for his services.
But...is this really a reason to delay a movie that millions of people are patiently waiting for? If there are external issues for Arrested Development - and Jason Bateman said at Comic Con it might be 18 months, meaning scheduling could be tricky in the next year - then that's understandable.
But I'd hate to think that everyone finds other things to occupy their time because Will Arnett's making a movie and then Michael Cera's got to do promotion for something and Jason Bateman can't get out of his commitments. Let's hope that's not the path they're going down with Arnett's Beverly Hills Jackass movie.
