Kate Beckinsale Returning to 'Underworld'?

We know now that there will be a fourth Underworld movie, and we know it's going to be in 3-D, for reasons that - like the visual effects in the last two films - are unclear. But could Kate Beckinsale get back in the leather? Bloody Disgusting has heard whispers that the lovely Selene will be the focus of the new movie, but stresses that the information is just at the rumor stage. Why would Beckinsale return to the franchise she left? Simple: The "Kate Beckinsale is a serious actress" stage of her career has not been met with a lot of positive attention. She did get a Critic's Choice nomination last year for Nothing But the Truth, but not too many people saw that or Winged Creatures, which is now called Fragments in its DVD release. In short: This is Beckinsale's best gig. She'd get paid well to return, her producer is the producer of the series, and that's about all you need to say. The third movie, the prequel that came out earlier this year, was the least successful of the trilogy, so if it's not a stopping point, there needs to be some draw for the fourth installment. Nobody cares if it's in 3-D. Hardly anyone cares if anything is in 3-D, especially a movie that can't really use the technology for anything beneficial. So to return to the world of the lycans and everything else, you better add some sizzle. Enter Kate Beckinsale. Of course, this is just a rumor right now, but it does make sense, at least in a world where a fourth Underworld movie makes sense.
