Thursday, August 13, 2009 at 1:15PM No Jack Ryan Missions for George Clooney
Despite how much sense it might make on the surface, everyman actor George Clooney will not portray everyman government agent Jack Ryan in a new installment of the film series based on Tom Clancy's bestsellers. There was talk last month that Clooney really wanted to make the leap back into franchisedom once Paramount announced it was seeking to reconstitute the series in light of the successes of Bourne and Bond.

Parmount is still making the movie - someday - but it won't be with Clooney, according to producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who told MTV that Danny Ocean is too old for the part. OK, actually, it's more like the part is too young for Clooney.
"It's for a young Jack Ryan. I love George, but it's not written for a man of his age," di Bonaventura says. "It's written for a guy in his early 30s." That was the plan when this idea first made headlines last year, and I see no reason why the usual suspects won't hear their names associated with the casting rumors again: Reynolds, Gosling, Franco, Hirsch.
For a while, it seemed like Aaron Eckhart was a possibility, although he's older than the producers want, as well. He'd actually be my top choice, even over Clooney, but it's doubtful if the guy's ten years removed from college in the script.
I wouldn't discount Chris Pine, either. Remember, this is Paramount and he is their Captain Kirk. I can't say I love a lot of the younger choices, and probably only Ryan Reynolds feels believable to me. Gosling would almost certainly turn it down because it's a movie people would see, and I just can't buy Hirsch or Franco for this role.
The producer adds that a script has been submitted to Paramount and that "it was well-received and it's in the
process." How far along in that process everything is, I don't know. But we're still a good couple years from seeing a new Jack Ryan movie.

... says the old fat dude ...
If its not going to be made for a couple of years then Ryan Reynolds will be too old by then...isnt he already in his early 30s? by the time this gets off the ground he'll be in his mid-30s! They should go with Shia LeBeauf. He'll be old enough by the time this gets through development.
I think Chris Pine is the best bet....I mean is acting ability is limited and I can buy him as a secret agent or whatever it is ...
I dont know why you said Ryan Gosling would turn it down because its a film people would see, i feel like that's a bit wrong in my opinion, I mean he would be the best choice given his abilities, but he WOULD turn it down because it probably wont be a good script with any depth and complexity not because he's afraid to be seen or something...
I hate to attack one of your other posters, Colin, but.... Shia LaDouche as Jack Ryan?! Are you, like, 12? Go hang out at the Nickelodeon site.
