Friday, August 14, 2009 at 4:35AM 'Law Abiding Citizen' Trailer Should Be Locked Up
Wow, I really liked Law Abiding Citizen more before I saw the trailer. Jesus, what the hell is this thing?

From what we were told, it was supposed to be a kind of vigilante movie wherein Gerard Butler takes the law into his own hands after the killers of his wife are set free by D.A. Jamie Foxx. That could offer us some good, gritty drama. But now...it's like Death Wish meets Saw meets The Bourne Identity.
I don't think I'm overstating it, but maybe I am because I thought I was going to see an entirely different kind of a movie, so take a look for yourself. It's certainly not the movie I was preparing for, though.
Quick question: If Butler is such a bad ass, why the hell did he not put up a better defense to the guy with the baseball bat who killed his family? I call bullshit on that moment in the trailer, and by extension, what appears to be an audaciously silly parade of antics that follow it.
The movie opens on October 16th, but it just dropped a couple notches in my estimation.

ugh... that looks all kinds of bad.
I feel the opposite. I was indifferent about this movie until I saw the trailer. It looks amazing, and cannot wait to watch Foxx and Butler in their roles. Butler appears to descend into madness after losing everything he holds dear in life. I cannot wait!
This looks sweet. Your original take on the movie has been done to death and probably would have tanked because it would have been seen as the same old stuff. Really like the vibe of the trailer. The film has made my must see list for the fall.
After being hit over the head with a baseball bat, he was tied up with his mouth taped. I presume that is why he could not respond to the killers of his wife and child. We really don't know how he chose the people whom he killed. I will definitely see this movie.

Haha... really? This is the question you ask? He gets an unexpected bat to the face and (who knows how many hits he took after that) I'm doubting very few could take that hit, shake it off bring down the whupass against multiple attackers. Being a badass doesn't mean you can't get knocked over, it's more of what you can do overall and from this trailer Butler's character can do quite a bit. The probability of everything else that happens in the trailer is hopefully explained away well or it's where the entire flick falls apart. The bat part though is not a problem.
I'm usually on your side Colin, on all things. But I have to agree with the board on this one, this movie looks kind of bad ass. I don't think it will be as good as Taken, since I am not a huge fan of Jamie Fox, but it should be good. I think the bigger issue here is Gerard Butler's choice of doing the Ugly Truth. He does all these great movies where he is bad ass, but he throws in an Ugly Truth or P.S. I Love You. That is a mystery worth trying to solve. Panel?
if you can supposedly arrange all that he does while in prison, and is such a bad ass he would, you know, check to see who was at the door first? I do that and I have not made any enemies yet.
The movie looks worth watching on the big screen.. For once this year I would pay to see a movie at a theater instead of waiting to see it when it makes it to video. And this would be it.
