Friday, August 14, 2009 at 3:09PM Nut Up or Shut Up: A New 'Zombieland' Poster
I will talk until I'm blue in the face about the importance of proper marketing for your movie. It especially helps a smaller film with less name recognition, and if that smaller film happens to also be a worthy way to spend your ten bucks, all the better. The classic example is Blair Witch, a film that cost less than $100,000 to make, maybe a couple million to advertise, and it was one of the top ten grossing movies of 1999.

So here comes Zombieland, which is obviously dealing with a better deck of cards than Blair Witch was, but it's still not one of the biggest fall movies. But we love, love, love the Red Band trailer, some of the viral stuff is funny, and now there's a new poster. It's not great, which is slightly disappointing, but it gives us another chance to talk about Zombieland, so the marketing push is still rolling in the right direction.
The poster comes from Coming Soon:

Really, all that marketing does is baits you to see a movie or makes you stay away. A perfect example is the new trailer for Law Abiding Citizen, which I hate, and which on this website, I stand in the clear minority. Most of our readers are more inclined to see it after watching the trailer. Mission accomplished.
For Zombieland, maybe all my blue-faced talking will shove you in the direction of watching that trailer. I think that will probably make a convert out of you. And if it does, you'd tell two friends and so on and so on and so on...Zombieland opens on October 9th, and hell yeah.
