Saturday, August 15, 2009 at 7:13AM Odd "Fan Fiction" Video for 'Gentlemen Broncos'
If you thought the first trailer for Gentlemen Broncos didn't make a lot of sense, wait until you see this companion video, The Year of Tomorrow. It calls itself fan fiction, but how can there be something this detailed, perfectly matching the strain of absurdity found in writer-director Jared Hess' strange story, months before the movie comes out?

If it were a fan creation, that would be because Jemaine Clement is an underground sensation. It doesn't really sound like the Sam Rockwell character we meet in the trailer, but again, the quality of work seems far too good to not be involved with the actual film. And then, of course, there's the YouTube channel where you can find this, and it's dedicated to Ronald Chevalier, the character Clement plays in the film.
So...I guess this is fake fan fiction, if such a thing can truly exist. I'd try to set up the story, but I'm not exactly sure what's going on. This movie just keeps getting more and more strange, and yet, I was really engaged by this little webisode. There's definitely not anything else quite like it.
Gentlemen Broncos will be in theaters on October 30th, and the next mondo bizarro thing we get from the movie, we'll be sure to share it if not put it in any kind of functional context.
