The Robert Rodriguez-produced retooling of Predator will shoot down at
Troublemaker Studios in Austin beginning next month. Production Weekly (through Worst
Previews
) says that Rodriguez is doing double duty, because his Machete is underway
already, but he'll serve as a director on that film.

Rodriguez wrote a new script for a Predator movie over a decade ago, and that's the
blueprint for the new film, which Fox will release next July, meaning there are some substantial
hopes for this as a franchise reboot. Instead of being about one Predator, there will be several,
hence the adjusted title, Predators.
According to the report the story won't be anything that resembles the 1987 flick. Instead, it
will focus on " a very intense group of people stranded on a Predator planet discovering
unspeakable horrors that are not always from outside their group."
With Rodriguez serving as a producer, the door opened for director Nimrod Antal to take the reins
of this one, although we don't have any official casting news yet. There have been rumors, none of
which involve household names like Schwarzenegger, but I'm sure someone will latch onto this
before it goes into production.

I'm always cautious about Predator movies like this, I hated the recent ones but have always like the original.
This looks promising though. Rodriguez has the smarts to take this in the right entertaining direction and the director Nimrod Antal is great. Check out his Hungarian film Kontrol from a few years back if you can get your hands on it. The atmosphere of that film is great and could fit right into a sci-fi film like Predators.
I doubt they are going to get the right casting to make people interested in the humans. Everyone's going to be cheering for the predators but the movie is going to be about human survival or something that no one is really going to care about because mainstream hollywood does not know how to cast interesting people or characters anymore in terms of remakes. That's a fact.
He gotta put Billy Drago in there somewhere.
They should do a 'Descent' thing and have a group of women fight with the preds.
