Tuesday, August 18, 2009 at 3:08AM 'District 9' Director Wants a Sequel...Join the Club
First things first: District 9 is not the 26th greatest movie ever
made. That's the current rating held by the new sci-fi movie over at IMDB. That's the opening weekend flush that will fade eventually. But what's clear is that people love, love, love the Neill Blomkamp movie, and have responded by making it one of the big surprise hits of the year.

Neill Blomkamp also loves it, as it happens. Talking to Fangoria, the director made no bones about it: He wants another movie. “I’d love to make a sequel, because it’s so creatively rewarding to me; there’s just something about [the story],” Blomkamp said.
He stressed that he has some other ideas he's working on but that the open ending (and the incredibly open beginning) of District 9 give him plenty of options for a District 10 or whatever you could call it.

“It’s my background mixed with the science fiction that I loved. I’d really like to go back to the world of District 9 — which, without [Sharlto Copley's] character, would be a very different kind of movie. So I think automatically the two of us will be reunited again, should the public decide that this film is something they want to see and it’s successful.”Amen. And here's the thing: People will - and already do - want a sequel, but not for the reasons that the studios generally look at. There's more story to tell, and I'm sure Blomkamp will get the chance.

This is one of those movies where I want a sequel, but will be happy if they don't make one. There was a good balance of questions answered vs questions unanswered that allows your imagination to fill in the blanks.
It may be difficult to do the news coverage angle with the character interviews a second time, so it will be interesting to see which route they take.
Either way it was a great movie.
Oh thats excellent news I love it...
