Tuesday, August 18, 2009 at 4:07PM First Look at Ryan Reynolds in 'Buried'
Among Ryan Reynolds' new post-Wolverine projects is Buried, a small independent film about a military contractor who wakes up in a coffin in the middle of the Iraqi desert. Now we're getting our first look at Reynolds, who's shooting the movie in Spain.

Here's the real pitch, though: It's all Ryan Reynolds, as he explained earlier this summer. "It's the only movie I've ever heard of with only one person in it. So it's just me, I'm the only person in the whole movie," Reynolds revealed about the Rodrigo Cortes film.
"It's either going to be the greatest, most experimental cool movie ever made or god knows what."

That about sums it up. It will either be a spectacular success or a spectacular failure. With this kind of set-up, there's little room for anything else.

I mean what could it be about beside what has been said...
Okay he's in a box annnnndddd then what???
He's going to panic, talk to himself, probably talk to God for help, and die of no oxygen in the end....
I dont get what could possibly occur with just 1 person in a movie and especially in just a box... 1 person in different settings would definitly work for me and I can see how but this is just odd...
Ryan Reynolds aint the greatest of actors either so that doesnt help too much..
The real question is at what point will he figure out a reason to get shirtless and show off his abs?
haha @ mdamian
Well the good thing is Ryan Reynolds is a watchable actor. He's one of my favorite male actors.
I remember thinking when I first saw the movie Red Eye "how are they going to flesh out a movie just on a plane" but I ended up loving that movie. Now I don't think I can compare the two yet since Red Eye relyed a lot on the chemistry between Rachel McAdams and Cillian Murphy and this movie has no one but Ryan Reynolds, but I don't think it will be more than an 1hour 30 minute movie. Maybe less, but I am interested to see what route they go.
haha @ mdamien aswell. :P Ryan Reynolds is one of my favorite actors also. He makes movies better and way worth the watch for me. I can't wait for this movie, I bet it will be extremely exciting...its different from mosr films.
The way I take this is that when he says he's the only person in the movie he may just be the only star or actor in the movie. There have been a few movies lately with one or no recognizable actors (Gran Torino and District 9 come to mind). Unless it's the greatest character of all time, I don't see how there can only be one character for what you'd have to imagine close to 85 minutes.
The way I see it playing out (and I'm just speculating here) is his character is a contractor working in Iraq and in the first act, maybe close to 15 minutes total he'll be outside in the day time and then something happens and everything goes black and he's in a box, probably until the end of the second act then somehow he's able to get out and he'll be running around Iraq trying to figure out what happened.
Anyway that's the only way I can see this playing out and possibly working. But maybe I'm wrong, I'm hoping it'll be great though.
Sidenote: Thinking out it now it kinda sounds a little like Oldboy where the main character was in a room by himself for close to I recall maybe 30 minutes (but I sure that's the only stretched similarity between the two films).
On IMDB he is the only actor listed, there are no other minor characters or anything so that should be understood THE FILM WILL HAVE ONLY HIM
I have a feeling its going to be a dud...
I mean while he's in this box what will the dialogue be???
-Everyone is saying he's great to watch this and that but no one is discussing the technical elements of a film like this as well as the script....
I just dunno what could possibly happen....
Anyone with any doubts about this movie can calm down. The script is amazing and even if Ryan is the only actor in the movie, the cell he has is an object that plays a huge role in the movie and through it we hear many other characters.
I'm pretty excited for the movie though I was expecting Ryan with a beard, the script says a contractor around 40 years he's barely 32.
i think you might have to keep an open mind
there are alot of movies that have been made playing with this type of formula
several people trapped in an elevator?
one person in a phonebooth?
two people trapped in a room?
sound familiar
now it's just trying to go one step further
i'm interested
but my interest is only mildly piqued
