My mind is certainly not made up about Surrogates. My primary objections are that it looks a little too clean and polished and, of course, Bruce Willis' hairpiece.

It's the story of a society that has gone underground, replaced in their day-to-day interaction with the world by automatons controlled by the host from secret underground lairs. Similar things have been done before, and it can be cool or miserable.
The reason I bring up that it looks so clean and polished is that it doesn't appear to resemble the world in the comic book on which it's based. I'm not saying it should try to be Sin City, but light and color go a long way toward establishing tone. Just ask the German Expressionists, especially if you want to get depressed in a hurry. Maybe they've got a great reason for it, though; so long as it fits the story, then it's no big deal.
