Sunday, August 2, 2009 at 8:22AM Timothy Olyphant Not Necessarily in 'Hitman' Sequel
Hitman did well enough to warrant a sequel, even without Olga Kurylenko next time. What a shame. But the second movie will be taken from the fifth video game, apparently, and the film is currently in the development stages.

So one thing you'd need is Agent 47, right? Well, Timothy Olyphant says he hasn't been contacted. But he isn't ruling it out. "It's not on my schedule," Olyphant admitted to Coming Soon while promoting his upcoming Perfect Getaway. What a great answer, by the way - "It's not on my schedule."
"If they want me to do another one, I suppose they could have me, yes," he continued. "What I can tell you about Hitman is that I'm thrilled that it was as successful as it was and it was a really nice opportunity and I appreciate that opportunity."
Sounds like to me that he'd be happy to come back for the right price. That's usually what "thrilled that it was as successful as it was" means. Olyphant wouldn't get $20 million or anything, but it would likely be a bigger payday than he'd get somewhere else.
And as I mentioned when the sequel was announced, Hitman was a pretty serviceable video game movie. Now I think they really have an opportunity to spend some more money and make a better film with a better cast and better stunts. And I'd think the first step would be to lock up the star, which clearly sounds like it hasn't happened yet.

Timothy olyphant i think is an awesome actor he has stolen the show in bit roles a few different times (Gone in 60 Seconds, Live Free and Die Hard, and The Girl Next Door most notably) but i never really felt he was right for this role. It's amazing how many times hollywood gets the casting wrong. I guess they were trying for a younger audience but i think movies like Taken and even to a certain extent the bucket list have showed that people are willing to watch maturer actors take the lead. And i think that's what Agent 47 needs.
I'm rather surprised Hitman did well. Outside of the action sequences, much of the film was easily forgettable and action sequences are increasingly dime-a-dozen affairs. Olyphant's portrayal isn't what I expected given the videogame, I was looking for something with more grit and edge to it. Having an actor some years older who has that weathered look, been there before and bought the t-shirt, a masterful veteran at what he does... that would've been more believable.
Olyphant seemed much too pretty boy for a role like this but then similar has been said of Connery, Moore and Brosnan in their turns as 007 too. Someone truly in these lines of work likely wouldn't fit perfectly as fashion models as an alternate job. I think such is why, in speaking of Bond, Daniel Craig was a better overall fit. He has a look that says this is what he does, it's tangible, it's real, it's on point and all else is window dressing luxuries in moderation. His Bond isn't the playboy cad who just happens to do this spy thing on the side and so it is better grounded, as much as can be, to reality. Hitman needs that sort of grounding to it and not with someone who could double as a runway model on moment's notice.
