Thursday, August 20, 2009 at 3:27PM Great New 'Shutter Island' Posters from Japan
New movie poster goodness for Martin Scorsese's Shutter Island, which arrive by way of the Russian movie site Kino Govno. You'll notice, of course, that these aren't Russian posters, or at least, they wouldn't be very effective Russian posters because all the text is in Japanese.

I warmed up to the film's second trailer recently. I think my expectation was a common one, that this would follow a fairly well-established path in Scorsese's career. Really, though, for the first time since maybe The Color of Money, he's directing more of what we'd call a studio picture rather than a Scorsese film. And that's fine. There are plenty of great supernatural thrillers, but you just don't expect Scorsese to spend time in that playground.
The movie is based on the Dennis Lehane novel, and stars, as you can see Leonardo DiCaprio. But i sure wish Mark Ruffalo had established himself enough to get on the poster. As I say every year, hopefully this is the film that finally establishes him.

Because Scorsese has dealt with warped minds before - Bickle, Cady, Fufkin, Hughes - I will be interested to see what psychological avenues he goes down here. From the looks of the trailers, it could be an intense ride for Leo. Or it could be silly ghost story stuff. But I hope not.
Shutter Island opens wide on October 2nd.
