Thursday, August 20, 2009 at 1:59PM New Trailer for 'The Wolf Man' with Benicio Del Toro
Here's hoping there's nothing really wrong with The Wolf Man, an attempt by Universal to recreate its storied library of horror movies. They're not all classics, mind you, but the heavy hitters sure are, meaning the studio has to, has to, has to get these right.

Down the road a ways, Guillermo del Toro will unveil a new Frankenstein, and the time is certainly not wrong for a new Dracula, either based on the resurgence of vampires in pop culture. The worry for The Wolf Man is in the intangibles. On paper, Benicio Del Toro, Emily Blunt, Hugo Weaving, and Anthony Hopkins should be enough if the script is good and they've got the right director.
However, something in that mix isn't working so far. The movie was delayed from April to November and again from November to February. Re-shoots were ordered because the wolf man effects didn't play well to audiences, so the second delay is probably a by-product of that. But still, when a movie sits on the shelf for ten months and publicly gets kicked around by the studio, that's not a recipe for success.
Having said all of that, I think you'll enjoy the trailer. Again, the tangibles all appear to be in the right place here.
I'm sure you're like me and think Valentine's Day is the perfect destination for a gothic horror movie remake. Seriously, outside of Christmas, is there a weekend that's worse for this than February 12th?

I liked that quite a bit more than I was expecting to. Here's to the hope that the rest of the film holds its own just as well. The re-shoots and the delays will all be forgotten if the end result is truly a work of art.
yeah that looks much better than I've been expecting. I really had no hope for this one, but it looks like it's got some potential.
I agree with you guys. Usually remakes try to change the original and put a "new spin" on i that just kills it, but this remake looks absolutely great. The makeup looks great, even the special effects look good, and the plot and casting look good. Benicio del Toro looks awesomel. I'm really looking forward to this now. Thanks for posting
