Scarlett Johansson Pushes Black Widow for 'Avengers'

I think we'd all be surprised if Iron Man 2 doesn't make a ton of money next year. If it does, then clearly Marvel will believe it's found a good mix of characters that we expand on in the future.

One of those characters is Black Widow, the Russian antogonist played by Scarlett Johansson. She tells Ireland Daily that, with any luck, Iron Man 2 will just be the beginning of her run at Marvel.

"I hope I get to come back and do it again," admitted ScarJo. "The character certainly comes back. We see that she does in the comics and certainly she is a big part of The Avengers. I don't know if that is where it's going to go but she is definitely a big part of The Avengers."

Perhaps I'm mistaken, but I don't recall that character being a "big part" of The Avengers, certainly not an essential one. However, without Scarlett's feminine whiles, that movie is going to be a bigger sausage fest than 300. If they're still planning on extending the heroic locker room to include not just Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, and possibly some version of The Hulk but also lesser-known do-gooders like Ant-Man, then there's got to be some kind of female presence in The Avengers, even if that's just too many characters for a comic book movie.

And if you ask Johansson, she'd sign up today.

"She has many different incarnations and different storylines so I'm hoping she will be able to continue in that way. I'm hoping that if the fans like the character and support the character, we'll see her again."

I'm still far from convinced she's the right choice for the role, although I'm more surprised nobody ever backed my idea of Olga Kurylenko to play the hot Russian. But if they alter the character and her background a bit (and that's not unprecedented), then it could work. I don't believe it's going to ever be a huge role, anyway.

Hopefully her Napoleon Dynamite like delivery doesn't ruin anything.
