Friday, August 21, 2009 at 4:10PM Trailer - Michael Cera Times Two in 'Youth in Revolt'
I saw two new trailers last night before Inglourious Basterds. The most anticipated is Christopher Nolan's Inception, which we'll feature as soon as it becomes available. I'll drop a Lionel Richie-infused hint, though: Oh, what a feeling, when we're dancin' on the ceiling.

The other trailer, a little less heralded, is Youth in Revolt, a Michael Cera comedy that's coming out Halloween weekend. The concept has been done before, maybe, kinda, but not with that quirky Cera sensibility. That nervous kid gimmick has started to wear on people, so he had better prove soon that he has more to offer than George Michael Bluth every time out.
Perhaps to that point, Cera plays two characters in Youth in Revolt. One is the Cera we've come to expect, the other is chick-gettin' magnet. I'll let the trailer explain the rest, though, because it does have its moments.

It's like The Graduate got a cool imaginary friend. Again, it doesn't exactly present us with a bold new Michael Cera but it's at least a small step forward.

Gotta love that pornstache, regardless of whether it's real or fake. Cera's always hilarious in the awkward teen role, even if it is the only thing he can pull off. This might be his 'last stand' so to speak before everyone tires of the nervous kid act, but I'm still excited for it, especially because of the dual roles that he plays.
Also thought it was awesome that they used “Timebomb” by Old 97’s at the end of the trailer. great song.
