Gillian Anderson Says There Might Be More 'X-Files'
Saturday, August 22, 2009 at 6:50AM
This is a long distance rumor, but I think you might be surprised by how
valid it probably is. In a recent Croatian interview, Gillian Anderson talked openly about the
prospects of a third X-Files movie, saying that Chris Carter and company "talked about
maybe doing it in 2012."

But wait, you say, didn't the second movie lose money? Oh no. Far from it. In fact, it only cost
about $30 million, so even though it wasn't a blockbuster, it doubled its budget by the time all
was said and done. And when you factor in how much money Carter, Anderson, and David Duchovny got
from the TV show, so long as it's generating any kind of cash, they can keep those going in
perpetuity if they feel like it.
And unlike when they were working on the show's final couple of seasons, it sounds like everyone
involved took a page out of the Eagles reunion and now can't wait to work together again.

"I don't know whether that's going to happen or not, but there isn't any reason not to do it. It was fun, it was hard work. I feel a certain commitment to that group of people that I worked with and we still enjoy doing it, when we do it. There is no reason why not to come together and do it again. If they can pull it off, we'll find some reason to make it."Yeah, 2012 is a long way off, but in a separate story, Bloody Disgusting confirms that Fox is in early talks about a threequeel. Actually, that's incorrect: What's being proposed is a reboot, but that couldn't work with Mulder and Scully about 20 years after the fact. So maybe that's something else or maybe there's nothing to it at all. I would like to see them finally kiss that original alien subplot with full-on tongue at one point. Hopefully, they'll stop wrapping that around other stuff and finally really give us the pay off the first movie should have delivered.

This sentence, "I would like to see them finally kiss that original alien subplot with full-on tongue at one point." is possibly the best sentence ever in relation to The X-Files. I'd love to see a third film. Bring it on!
I would love a third film, too. The alien conspiracy/Smoking Man/Syndicate storyline was tons of fun. Just leave the Super Soldiers storyline out of it. Aliens was way more enjoyable. And for the love of all that is X-Files, please bring Samantha back home to Mulder. I understood the idea behind the two-parted that gave Mulder some closure over his sister's fate but jeeesh! I want him to finally find her!
I love these characters, but by gawd, give them some adventures worthy of my $9.50! If I wanted the TV show I could just throw my DVD's on or stay up late with a Turner Network.
Adjusted for inflation, Will, theaters will probably be taking $10.25 in 2012 when the 3rd X-Files movie is released.
Just saying...
Just saying what, Carter? That you are a nit picky nerd? Sheesh...
I agree with everyone else - they need to bring it back to basics and get on that conspiracy/alien storyline. The last movie was like whaaaaaaa?
Relax, I think carter was joking. Now who's the nerd :-)
Bring on XF3!!!!!!

The only way I'm going to watch XF3, is if Chris Carter and Company left. Single handedly, they have run-aground this franchise. Like Lucas, they have to fire themselves, and get fresh blood in, otherwise, we'd have to shed blood to get me in the theater.
Forget reboot, JJ Abrams didn't do a good job at ST either, unwatchable. I cared for Eric Bana more than Kirk and co.
The only, the only reboot or sequel that is better than its original are Batman the Beginning, Godfather 2, T2 and Aliens. I assure you, Batman 3 will be just as bad, as were Alien and Terminators 3 and 4.
The only reason sequels would work, would succeed is if they had a universal moral premise, that spoke to human values. All of the successful features have one and only one moral premise: Sacrifice leads to honor, deception leads to death; family love is life, loyalty is the glue.
There must be this moral premise in place for XF3 to work, and that is why it worked in the first 5 seasons of XF but not the rest. The loss of the sister, of family reunion was the heart of it, and the aliens just a subplot that moved the story forward.
If T2 didn't sacrifice itself, if Rippley didn't sacrifice facing her fears and security for the colonists, the films wouldn't have worked.
Fire all writers and creators who create films without a universal moral appeal, following universally accepted natural laws.
Crash, A Few Good Men, Shakespeare in Love, all of them non-action films, have the universal moral premise, Humanity, Integrity, Unconditional Love, all will be appealing and relatable to the audience, the final assayer of all stories.
I'd like to see a William storyline on this one. They spoke about him in the 2nd movie and I think going back to him and how he's sort of a "chosen" child for the alien storyline, it'd be perfect.
Not to mention it would be a nice way to come back fullcircle, them getting their son back.
