Saturday, August 22, 2009 at 2:52PM Zach Galifianakis Invited to 'Dinner for Schmucks'
You certainly hope that Zach Galifianakis is getting this kind of attention
because producers and studios recognize his talent and not just that he's the best thing about the
year's most successful comedy, The Hangover. In my eyes, he's certainly in the running for a Best Supporting Actor
nomination; that may not hold, but it's where we are right now.

So in addition to two Todd Phillips movies, The Hangover sequel and Due Date with
Robert Downey, Jr., Galifianakis has just signed on to join Steve Carell and Paul Rudd in
Dinner for Schmucks. It's set to be directed by Jay Roach, so those four guys are a pretty
good start for a comedy. It also doesn't hurt that it's based on Francis Veber's funny French
comedy, The Dinner Game.
The title refers to weekly dinners planned by a few friends. The catch is that they all bring an idiot to the meal each week, and the idiots dominate the conversation to the amusement of the hosts. If you had to cast Alan from The Hangover in that movie, don't you think he'd be one of the idiots? According to Variety, Galifianakis will portray "an assistant manager of a mattress store who is dating Carell's ex-wife," so it sure sounds like he won't be one of the friends planning the meals.
There's no official release date yet, but it will shoot this fall for a summer 2010 release.
