Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at 3:01AM More Talk of Angelina Back for 'Wanted' Sequel
For the second time in about six weeks, Wanted
director Timur Bekmambetov has dropped a major hint that Angelina Jolie
will be back for the sequel. Bad move? I think so, and I'm usually Team
Angelina as far as that goes.

Bekmambetov thinks he's cracked the idea of how Jolie could return. If you
don't know why she shouldn't, why are you even interested in the sequel? Go
to Craigslist or something.
Here are the specifics, straight from the Russian director's mouth:

"If you remember from the first film, we have a recovery room with the baths of wax. We know how to do this, but it's still tough to do, because the bullet is inside her head. But there has to be a reason for her to come back...And we know the reason. I think we found the reason for her to come back."I know the reason, too, I think: Because producers and the studio are afraid the sequel can't make money without Jolie. Organically, there's no reason to bring her back, so that makes the ending of the first movie rather pointless, right? I mean, wasn't it supposed to trigger (pardon the pun) the end of James McAvoy's arc from pushover to assassin, handing him the baton for the rest of the franchise? No matter what happens, Bekmambetov tells MTV he hopes to shoot the sequel this winter, which doesn't leave much time to align all those pieces, does it? I mean, have you seen McAvoy's shooting schedule? Sounds like they might be rushing and compromising this sequel too much.

I haven't watched the first one again for a couple of months, but didn't the bullet exit her head following its bloody, circular arc?
Technicalities aside, in the wake of Watchmen it's a shame that - if there has to be a sequel - Bekmambetov isn't feeling more inspired to make use of material from the original comics. Mister Rictus, for example, has a lot of potential...
wanted was a 6/10, not something amazing. And to see them bring back people from the did sounds like pirates of the caribbean 2 all over again, and that's bad news
Agreed. I guess we could call this the Crank 2 direction? Wanted was silly fun the first time around, so why not?
Still, I'd like to see something where they reverse the arc a bit: McAvoy has to recruit a homely attractive girl (some Megan Fox clone) and train her to be a hottie assassin. Seems simple enough.
The baths of wax! Of course, why didn't I think of that? I just got as far as her not being dead because the bullet never exited and she just went down. Though I still like my idea better, that by the time the bullet got back to her it had lost significant velocity and mass to do anything more than embed in her skull and knock her out. Regardless of how plausible an explanation for bringing her back may be it just doesn't make much sense with how the film ended. It really shows a lack of creativity (I know surprise, surprise /DUH) to try and drag Jolie back in to what should be the all McAvoy show. Apparently, Bekmambetov doesn't think he can come up with a sequel that will go anywhere without a big name attached to it. Then again a big name attached doesn't signal box office gold.
