Forget James Cameron and all his 3-D, and pay no attention to Robert Zemeckis' constant trouble replicating the human eye in performance capture technology. Where Hollywood is really lagging is the motion poster department.

They've tried a few of these, particularly this year, where an online-only poster that features moving images is created, I guess, to build buzz. But with the exception of The Haunting in Connecticut, the motion posters aren't really well done, nor are they liable to sell more tickets.
I'm greatly disturbed by the new Pandorum motion poster, not because it's creepy (which it kind of is), but because it has done an A+ job with its promotional media to this point and now...bleh.

Ewww it is pretty fuckin disturbing I can see how it might incline more people to see it actually but doesnt really work for me just b/c Im not too big of a fan of scary/horror/disturbing/nasty movies...
I mean I might take a girl to one but other than that Im not too interested lol
This motion poster idea is not really a good one. To see a 5 second clip play over and over, how is that promoting this film? A good flash official website for a movie with many cool features is much better and would better explain something. This is just stupid.
I don't mind the looping clip but the looping audio is ABSURDLY ANNOYING. It really, really really makes me want to kill who ever did it. REALLY. it makes me want to get of the webpage i'm at as soon as it starts. It's not only doing a poor job of promoting, it's actually pushing me away from whatever website this happens to be on. Argh.
This is just plain annoying, I'm wanting to see the film less now. Posters have never made me want to see a film. At best they spark curiosity that leads me to want to know more about a film but that's it.
I hear what you're saying. In defense of motion art, a friend of mine is CEO of RabbitHoles, the ones that designed the live, physical Terminator Salvation motion posters in some theaters. It's an amazing technology, and they're doing great things. I'm not affiliated with the company in any way, I just wanted to point them out because I think they've revolutionized this concept. Here is the Salvation poster seen through the eyes of someone physically walking by it.
