Thursday, August 27, 2009 at 2:52AM Japanese '2012' Trailer Has Big Bang for Your Buck
There is a great book about movies called The Stewardess is Flying the Plane, which is ostensibly about studio pictures of the 1970s but spends adequate time on the disaster films of that decade, the kinds of movies that seem to have inspired pretty much everything Roland Emmerich has ever made.

His latest blowed up good movie is 2012, which like most Emmerich movies, you might be able to enjoy more if you make up your own dialogue. But he has clearly thrown the kitchen sink at his latest disaster epic, which makes sense since this is about the end of the world. Most destruction ever? Maybe for a trailer, yeah.
Here's the Japanese trailer for 2012, which I think has more destruction than the U.S. version. I wonder why that would be.

I can't wait for the epilogue when Cusack, the kids, and Amanda Peet are left to rebuild humanity. That part's going to be awesome. 2012 was pushed back a few months ago and will now open on Friday, November 13th. That can't be a coincidence.

The absence of Godzilla maybe?
This movie is going to be awesome! Independence Day is one of my all time favorites and it looks like Roland Emerich has done it again. Also John Cusack is very underrated as an actor. Ever since Identity he has become one of my all time favorites. I can't wait for this one
