Is This 'Cloverfied 2' Viral Video?
Friday, August 28, 2009 at 7:20AM
So what are we looking at here, exactly? I can't say for sure. It could be an out-of-the-blue viral video for Cloverfield 2, which is what it looks like it's trying to be, or it could be a homemade hoax.

That's the thing about what we would expect to see from the Cloverfield sequel: It would be quite a bit like this. Shaky cam, kind of ho-hum in its presentation until some big finish, and based on what we've heard about the second film, it would be set in Japan. Then again, something like that is so easy to produce at home, this could have come from anywhere.
Watch it for yourself and see what you think. There hasn't been any real progress on the sequel at an official level, and this seems way too early for something like that, but I'm not alone thinking there's a very slim chance it could be legit; Fangoria is curious about the video's origin, too.
What do you think? That sign at the end makes you wonder. Looks fake, but maybe it's supposed to.

I'm saying fake.
I think so... it is fake
This is crap, the fact that this has people buzzing is a joke.
That was filmed in Santa Monica, California on the 3rd Street promenade. You can see a street sign which says "Cloverfield", it's the street that the Cloverfield production offices were on, hence the name of the movie.
Weird, its Santa Monica, but of course the road sign.
It's pretty bad even for a viral video... I say fake as well.
Hmm... Sorry to say, but I have also a fake feelings... I mean... they won't use "Cloverfield" word in the viral promotion to "Cloverfield" (if there would be seen Slusho!, I'd be more impressed (use it, dear faker :-))
Btw, which language is it? it is not Japanese, beside of the clip title "そこに何ですか?", which sounds for me also not really Japanese. I'd say either "それが何ですか?", or "そこに何があるの?" or so...
Yeah, what you said.
Listen, I'm just the gate keeper here. I don't know Santa Monica from the dark side of the moon, so I appreciate that input. As I said before, it's probably phony, but it looks like you'd expect something for this to look.
Thanks for the comments; it was certainly worth the discussion, I think.
Was legit for me until the suprise.
AT 30 seconds freeze frame look way to poorly done and to big.
Cloverfield is mroe subtle then giant monster takes up skyline, it s more pretty skyline, is that mountain moving? MONSTER
My buddy works a few blocks from where this was shot and says there's no street named Cloverfield there. Of course, he is a complete imbecile.
bait
Not a bad amateur attempt, but certainly not an official viral attempt.
