Don't Blink: A Quick, Brutal Teaser for '[Rec]2'

If you don't like things that go bump in the night, this might be your cue to leave.

The sequel to [Rec], the horror movie reimagined for American audiences as Quarantine, will be part of the Toronto Film Festival's Midnight Madness next month. The original never made it to U.S. theaters, believe it or not, despite a worldwide run and mostly good notices. Just goes to show you how out of touch distributors can be with the younger demographic they bend over backwards trying to attract. Seriously, what would it have cost to put this in ten major cities for a month? Three to five million, maybe?

Anyway, [Rec] 2 is much the same, only more so. A building full of zombies, guys with guns (and video cameras)...you get the picture. But in case you don't, or you just really go in for this kind of stuff, here's 37 pretty terrific seconds of what directors Jaume Balaguero and Paco Plaza have cooked up for the sequel.

There is not a U.S. release date for [Rec]2, although if I owned a boutique studio, I'd probably pick up the rights and run them as a double feature in that ten-city model I mentioned above. Hell, we just talked about Halloween weekend being wide open.

The plans could change, though, depending on the Toronto reaction. They were my favorite funk band from the 70s, by the way - The Toronto Reaction.

Sweet!!! The first REC just came out on DVD in the U.S. - I highly encourage anyone who enjoys intense horror films (and doesn't get motion sickness easily) to check it out.

I'll be awaiting news on a U.S. release for this one as well!

I respectfully disagree, Colin. I've always felt that Ten-City Model was way better than The Toronto Reaction.

Yeah, they were a big favorite, too, but they kind of sold out after a while.
