'Bad Boys 3' Beginning to Take Shape
Monday, August 31, 2009 at 2:01AM
Somebody better back the truck up: Sony is prepping a Bad Boys 3, a film that Will Smith, Michael Bay, Jerry Bruckheimer, and - not surprisingly - Martin Lawrence have all expressed some interest in.

The second film, the last one made when Smith and Bay were remotely affordable, was released in 2003, meaning if it comes together, we're looking at about another eight year split between the movies. The Hollywood Reporter says Peter Craig has been hired to write the third film, which would ideally reunite all the principals, but none of them have deals to return.
And that could be tricky, as it turns out. Michael Bay made somewhere in the vicinity of $75 million for the first Transformers after all the cash was counted. He almost certainly made even more from the sequel. Will Smith commands whatever he commands; even Seven Pounds made money, although it was his first non-$100 million film since Ali.
So if Bay gets about 10% of the worldwide gross and if Smith gets about 10% of the worldwide gross...you can do the math here. Suddenly, a half-billion gross is cut in half just by paying those two deals and some marketing. Can it make that? Dunno. The second movie came up short of $300 million, and really wasn't that big a hit even with the global receipts. Clearly, you'd have to think a third movie would do better than that.
Theoretically, Bruckheimer, Bay, Smith, and Lawrence could come aboard as producers for a relaunch of the series, and that might be the way to go. After all, both actors will be older when a third movie comes out than Danny Glover was in Lethal Weapon, and he was getting too old for this shit. So, the name Bad Boys may not be appropriate any longer.

Is Martin Lawrence ANY kind of believable as an action hero at this point (assuming he ever was), esp after College Road Trip?
One of the very worst actors of his generation.
My guess is that you could make this movie, then cut a trailer and put it at the beginning of Tropic Thunder and it would fit.
LOL funny comments by you guys...
I still kinda feel like this isnt going down...or at least its hopeful thinking...b/c Will Smith needs to step up his game and do some fucking movies wiith Oscar potential I mean this gun battling, action, superhero films are fucking getting old....
Will give us more we know you are great now show us and the world your creativity and versaltility...
Comon easy up on Martin Lawrence yes he is a bad actor not the WORST you and I know that isnt true Colin...
He is funny, his stand up is funny, and he did have a tv show that was very good for a short time as I recall...
He's not funny. His stand-up is not funny (at least not by the time he got to Runteldat), and his limited success of his TV show was based on his plagiarism of Flip Wilson with the Shanaynay character. Big deal. Eddie Murphy at least has a lot of talent, talent he no longer wishes to showcase. Lawrence can't even say that. And if he could say that, it would be poorly delivered.
All, I can say to Colin is WOW. Enjoy your comments but WOW
