Monday, August 31, 2009 at 4:10AM Weekend Recap - Horror, Horror, 'Hobbit,' 'Hornet'
Yeah, the big story this weekend was the box office, and that's rare for the weeks surrounding Labor Day. Usually, the studios are spent by this point of the summer. Labor Day they do next to nothing, and the week after that, all of their efforts are focused on the Toronto Film Festival. But this year is different, as evidenced by the two horror franchises battling it out for the top spot this weekend.

There were some other worthwhile headlines, including separate updates on Halloween and its director, Rob Zombie, plus another delay for Seth Rogen's seemingly doomed Green Hornet.
$28 Million for Final Destination
No 3-D for The Hobbit
FX killing Rescue Me in 2011
Weinsteins order Halloween 3-D for next summer
...But without Rob Zombie, who will instead remake The Blob
Matthew Vaughn wants to kick ass with The Avengers
The Green Hornet moves back five months
