Monday, August 31, 2009 at 11:38PM Wrong Adjective: Fox Rebooting 'Fantastic Four'
Though it had to be in the works prior to the announcement that Disney was buying Marvel Enterprises, it was nevertheless something of a surprise to see Fox announce plans to reboot The Fantastic Four. And let me be the first to say: Ugh.

It's just not a recipe that works very well, and I don't really care if you're a fan of the comic or not. We're not talking about the comic; we're talking about a movie treatment, and a stretchy guy, a man made of stone, a punk who can set himself on fire, and a really hot girl whose talent is that you can't see her just kind of lays there on screen. It's gimmicky at best, and the movies we've seen so far don't take it much further than that.
The first film made a considerable amount of money and the second one made substantially less. Usually, you'd stop right there, but Fox obviously thinks the answer is actually more Four, but it should look drastically different. I would doubt anyone would return, except maybe Chris Evans, who might still have some viability in this kind of movie. I'm guessing they'll go younger with the other two male roles and pick a lesser name than Jessica Alba in the role of Sue Storm, because she's more of a background character in this world.
Fox has hired Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind) to oversee the new film, although Variety that the Oscar-winning writer won't take a crack at the screenplay. Instead, that duty will fall to Michael Green, late of Green Lantern.
We talked about this the other day with regard to The Hulk. Marvel's letting that one rest for now, I would imagine. DC can't make up its mind about Superman. And with all the characters in the Marvel Universe out there, you'd think they'd want to explore a franchise that hasn't already deflated movie fans.

A better shout out to Sub-Mariner could not have been made!
Nobody wants to see a fish hero. Same goes for Aquaman. That'll tank harder than Antman will.
The greatest gift Hollywood will give us is when they wake up and finally realize what we are all waiting for...a reboot of The Hottie and the Nottie.
and now that craig said it he has doomed us all
Oh just you all wait for the He-Man reboot! Prepare for the weeping!
Is it wrong that I actually want an Aquaman movie...or am I just ahead of my time!
An Iron Fist movie could be cool
Aquaman would be nearly impossible. It's hard enough to make a movie above water.
