Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at 12:07AM Carla Gugino Throws a 'Sucker Punch' for Zack Snyder
A couple years ago, Warner Bros. turned a few heads by saying, at least internally, that movies with female leads were off-limits. They don't sell, or that's the theory. So what does the studio do with Zack Snyder to follow-up Watchmen? They let him make a mostly female action movie set in the 1950s...with no major movie stars. Confused yet?

Sucker Punch just added another set of XX chromosomes, with the sultry Carla Gugino joining Vanessa Hudgens, Jena Malone, Emily Browning, Abbie Cornish, and Jamie Chung. The Hollywood Reporter says that Browning (The Uninvited) will play a teenage girl "confined to a mental institution by her evil stepfather, who intends to have her lobotomized in five days. She and her friends enter an alternate reality where they begin planning an escape."
Gugino will portray an employee of the institution, and we can only hope she has various shades of Nurse Ratched. The casting isn't out of left field since Gugino was a big part of Watchmen. And she's good, too. Especially lately, as she's chosen roles that highlight her sexuality.
Snyder's got a while to create this little world, described as "Alice in Wonderland with machine guns;" the movie comes out in March 2011. We've already heard from Hudgens that she expects it to be pretty much a full-on R-rated movie. How would that be a hard ticket to sell?

Carla Gugino in a nurse outfit? Here is my 8 dollars good sir.
While it may be true that female driven films "don't sell," Snyder has a built in audience. All they have to do to make sure this thing sells is promise us some boobies as well.
