Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at 10:25PM Trailer - Peter Jackson's 'The Lovely Bones'
We previewed it last night, and now the full official trailer for
The Lovely Bones has been released. You know it's
Peter Jackson's first film as a director since King Kong, but what may not have popped immediately in your mind is that this is only his second film in six years, or only his third movie in a decade, if you count Lord of the Rings as one massive thing.

Not that he hasn't been busy doing other things, but I think Jackson clearly earned some time off from directing and this film is pretty good change of pace for him, even if the potential drawback to adapting Alice Sebold's novel is, well, pace. It's not a stout novel, but as a movie it certainly can't move too fast just because of its nature. Of course, Jackson's not known for his brevity, anyway.
It's worth debating in a hypothetical way whether or not
Saoirse Ronan can pick up her second Oscar nomination at the age of 15. I doubt it would happen no matter how good she is just for that reason, but she'll clearly be one of the actors in the spotlight come December.
Oh, as for Jackson's brevity, Bones has a current running time of two hours twenty minutes. Not bad for serious Oscar movie, which is how the studio's positioning it. It comes out December 11th, which reinforces that fact.

lifjiadjsflkj this looks fabulous.
Did they get rid of the rape to soften it up a little bit? Or are they just concealing it from the trailer because murder is easier to advertise than rape and murder? Either way not too important I guess... I'm half-impressed but also half-unsure about the trailer. I'm going to see it though, so I guess it did its job.
I think they just buried it for the trailer. Pretty sure that's staying in there, or at least that's what I read when they were getting ready to make it.
This looks amazing!
I think this will be a huge hit. Alice Sebold wanted an unknown actress to play
Susie Salmon, and what luck to get Saoirse Ronan, whom I believe will stun
audiences with her overall performance. She oozes natural talent, and has to
be in the running for a second Oscar Nomination in 2010.
