Friday, August 7, 2009 at 7:02PM A John Hughes Film Festival Next Weekend in Tempe
We have a bittersweet opportunity for our hometown readers in and around Phoenix. Yesterday, as the sad news about John Hughes' death was hitting us all a lot harder than we probably expected it to, I fired off a quick e-mail to Bryan Laurel, the Director of Marketing at Harkins Theaters, and truthfully, one of the people most responsible for the Valley of the Sun hosting the Wolverine world premiere back in April.

I asked whether or not he had considered a small John Hughes retrospective, a kind of weekend-long film festival to honor the passing of an artist who had such a big impact on a generation of kids. And now, I'm pleased to say, that Harkins Theaters and Get the Big Picture will present a John Hughes Film Festival next weekend at the legendary Harkins Valley Art in downtown Tempe.
Details will be solidified Monday, and we'll get them to you as soon as we get the final word, but it will be next weekend and here are the films:
Sixteen Candles
The Breakfast Club
Pretty In Pink
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
Planes, Trains and Automobiles I'm very proud to be a small part of it and very thankful to Bryan and everyone at Harkins for not only making this happen for a ton of movie fans but also for shifting things in their schedule to do it. We'll have some prize packs to give away beginning on Monday, so check back then when we'll have all the details on the John Hughes Film Festival (showtimes, etc.) and the contest, as well.

This is so great. Thank for working it out Colin! I am so there.
KICK ASS! I will tell everyone! You can count me in as well ;)
was looking for something to do next weekend...this is perfect. Thanks Colin for pulling this together!
e-mail me the schedule. I'll mention it on the show
I'm sure Harkins will be putting me to use on this too, but let me know if I can help with anything. Valley Art is one of my theatres.

Proof once again that Harkins is a class act. Only they would do something like this. Cool stuff like this is why I will only see movies at Harkins. I am so there next weekend!
