Friday, August 7, 2009 at 5:58PM 'Green Hornet': Singer-Actor Jay Chou is Kato
The search for a replacement for Stephen Chow in the role of Kato is over, and now Jay Chou will team up with Seth Rogen in Michel Gondry's The Green Hornet. Who's Jay Chou? I asked myself that same question looking at the press release from Colubmia. He's a Taiwanese singer and actor who actually appeared in Curse of the Golden Flower along with several other films in the Asian market.

Said Gondry of what Chou will bring to the role, "Jay is incredibly unique and charming and fights like a wild dog! When I filmed him next to Seth, they had such great chemistry, and I knew the movie will be great." Well that's the best news I've heard in months about this movie, one we believe is teetering towards failure thanks to the depature of the multi-talented Chow and several other moves.
Chou remarked that it was "an overwhelming experience" to fill Bruce Lee's shoes, but promises he won't try to echo Lee's famed performance as the Green Hornet's manservant.
Considering how bad it could have been - Nic Cage is already rumored for the villain, which should be enough for you to thrust your head into te nearest gas oven - Chou might be an inspired choice. He hasn't made an impression on American audiences, he's shown he can fight in Golden Flower, and he'll help bring audiences to the film in the foreign markets. Believe me, this one's going to need that help, because the studio has not shown complete confidence in this film's abilities next summer, recently shoving it from its own weekend into stiff competition with other films.
Now the only thing left is to actually film it, and try to believe with all your might that Seth Rogen is in any way a proper choice for the role of The Green Hornet. We'll find out what kind of brew Gondry is stirring next July 10th.
