Friday, August 7, 2009 at 5:01AM Week in Review - John Hughes, 'G.I. Joe', 'Machete', 'Lovely Bones'
More sad news this week in a summer that has had more than its fair share of loss. As you have probably heard, the great writer-director John Hughes passed away Thursday, suffering a heart attack while walking in New York City. Though he dealt with a lot of pop culture stuff that will age the exteriors of some of his films fairly quickly, he was such a good storyteller and perhaps the first one to so wonderfully capture the travails of growing up in Generation X. He'll be sorely missed and was already, after he began scaling back his work nearly 20 years ago.

Conversely, it was an entertaining week of trailers and casting news and rumors, so be sure to check out some of those stories, as well.
