Saturday, August 8, 2009 at 9:15PM McG Wants Sam Worthington for 'Captain Nemo'
Once again, I'm inclined to say that Sam Worthington keeps picking up big roles: Terminator, Avatar, Clash of the Titans, a remake of The Candidate, and now (possibly) McG's Disney update, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Captain Nemo.

The news comes from McG himself, who is probably better at stoking the fires of a good rumor than he is directing. At one point, he said Will Smith was in his sights for Captain Nemo, but Smith passed. And he tells IGN that Worthington might be the choice now "if it's in the cards."
To back up for just a second, McG was being interviewed about Terminator Salvation and where he is for the fifth film in that series. He admits some of the places where it could have gone wrong this summer and a few cosmetic changes he's got in the works for the next one. As part of that discussion, he takes "a lot of satisfaction in playing a role in breaking the great Sam Worthington, who I think is one of the best actors out there. Look out for Clash of the Titans because Clash is going to be really good – I've seen some of that."
So while he's on the subject of Worthington, McG slides in the possibility that he might play the lead in Nemo. We'll see how well he fares between now and next summer, during which time Avatar and Titans will both hit theaters. I don't think at this moment, he's a big enough name for Disney to lay a franchise at his feet. But he could be in nine months.
If Disney wants to accelerate things a bit, though, I think the studio - which like all of the majors suffered a big drop in second quarter revenue - would want a safer, bigger name.

Dannngg Sam Worthington is getting quite the roles I must say and is working with major major established actors...
Its quite a whirlwind for him but it looks like he's taking it well I mean he's not in the spotlight so that must mean something right?? lol
But after this post I seem to ask myself as to why??? Why is he getting all these roles, with great actors costaring, and great directors (excluding McG lol)
????
I mean has he shown the public that he can actually act??? Let alone act good or act surprise or impress us???
I mean we've only seen him Terminator Salvation and everyone how that turned out to BOMB not his fault I must say but still...
-We know he will be in Avatar (which I really think will be a HUGE hit) but other than that we know nothing about his acting ability specifically...
So would the community like to answer or attempt to answer my question : Why is Sam Worthington getting such high profile roles???? When we barely have seen the guy in anything...??? Why is he getting all these roles, with great actors costaring, and great directors (excluding McG lol)
????
MY ONLY ANSWER I can think of is.... = He must have a incredibly really good agent and has a great personality.....
I guess there's a rumor going around on the internet and imdb is that Sam Worthington "buys" his roles????
I mean Colin, community, anybody out there...is that even possible??? does anybody even know if that is possible??? or if Sam does it??
So let me get this straight, Sam Worthington's previous 10 years of work in film and tv in Australia including an AFI best actor award doesn't count because you "Americans" haven't heard of him so therefore he must be buying his roles!
Wow, how incredibly condescending, have you ever thought maybe just maybe since he decided to try out for roles in America that directors/producers etc. have actually decided he has a lot to offer, is a good actor and deserves to be cast in these movies on his own merit?
I don't think he buys his roles. But at the same time its more about the marketing I think that confuses us. He's being marketed as a huge star here in the USA and we were unsure why. I always felt it would be better if Christian Bale played the terminator rather than john conner but he didnt.
Never read Captain Nemo so can
t really comment on how good he will be at bringing him to life. But I do remember Clash of the Titans and I don't like Sam Worthingtons look for Clash of The Titans. He looks a little too commercial and clean cut to be Perseus. I think they need someone with a darker aura.
I will happily "buy" roles if it's going to get me into Hollywood and in the sights of the movers and shakers.
So, what is the going rate for a 'buy" and who do I make the cheque out to?
Seriously, with Russell Crowe for a friend and go between, introducing Sam to directors, agents and producers how else would an Aussie unknown get signed (I hear it's Crowes agent, George Freeman, from William Morris/Endevour Agency) so early in his Hollywood career?
On the down side, sorry Sam, winning an AFI aint what it used to be, when you consider the very small pool of real talent and the bulk of that rapidly leaving the country.
That seems to be one of the chief reason that Aussie TV and film just sucks: In each and every show it seems like the same goddam half dozen faces I got tired of years ago.
Always the same lame acting, same cringeworthy, high pitched accents, same poor casting, awful scripts, need I go on?....
