Friday, September 11, 2009 at 2:09PM Cool New Trailer for 'Solomon Kane'
I don't remember if this new international trailer for Solomon Kane is the same one that premiered at Comic Con. That one was leaked online but it didn't last long. Anyway, even if they are one and the same, this is much higher quality.

Having watched it, I think there's a lot of new stuff here in the middle, and frankly, it looks pretty good on that judge-a-movie-by-its-trailer scale. The character is from Robert E. Howard, creator of Conan, and it took him decades to gain anywhere near that level of fame.
What I like about this trailer, in addition to James Purefoy really looking like he belongs in the leading role, is how the effects aren't overdone. Certainly, for the reported $40 million it cost to make the film, they've managed to really spread that money around. Take a look for yourself:

Solomon Kane isn't a reaction to this new push to get Conan back on the screen. A movie version has been in the works for nearly a decade, and this particular production began back in January 2008, so maybe they've put that much time into crafting the best possible story? Sometimes, the more you have on a character the harder that becomes, and Kane has been around for the better part of a century.
Now all that's left is to determine a release date.

kinda reminds me of van helsing.
If it reminds you of Van Helsing, it's only because the makers of that farce gave the title character Solomon Kane's look. My guess would be that they wanted to make a Solomon Kane movie, but were unable to get the rights to it & decided to name the character Van Helsing instead. That way they could butcher two awesome characters at the same time. Solomon Kane is the real deal & this director seems to be taking the subject matter seriously. I can't wait for the U.S. release.
