Monday, September 14, 2009 at 10:30AM Extinguished: No Chris Evans in 'F4' Reboot
Shows what I know: When Fox announced its scheme to reboot The Fantastic Four, I started playing with the casting a bit and came to the following conclusion. "I would doubt anyone would return," I wrote last month, "except maybe Chris Evans, who might still have some viability in this kind of movie."
And now Evans is washing his hands of the entire idea.

The actor tells Cinematical, "I don't think I'm going to be involved in it. I would imagine a reboot would be -- a reboot," adding, "I think they're going to start from scratch and that's the way those movies go."
If you didn't see Push, and I suspect based on its box office numbers that's the case, Evans does a pretty good job as a young leading man in an action film. That's why I said he might be the only likely returning cast member from the original Four. But he says that won't happen and he's perfectly fine with Fox coming up with new ideas, even so close to the first two films in the series.

"Sometimes they happen quicker than others. Batman there was a big chunk of time, and the new Batman movies are fantastic. Superman, Incredible Hulk. Sometimes its a big gap, sometimes there's a small gap. If there's room to reinvent a franchise in a different tone and they can make a good film out of it, so be it. I'm not going to have anything negative to say about it."I hope Fox sees the possibilities and limitations of this franchise. I'm of the opinion that, like Hulk, Aquaman, and Thor, among others, that it just doesn't work as well as a movie. In this instance, the visuals involved with the nature of the characters are hard to believe, and I can't see the technology of Man on Fire or Man Made of Stone or Man Who Can Stretch Himself Out really getting that much better. The stories are certainly there, particularly if, instead of trying to force feed us the same movie again less than ten years later, Fox really digs deep and unearths one of the cool Fantastic Four storylines, which is also the only hope Thor has, in my opinion. It won't make up for the fact that whomever is cast to Johnny Storm will still look wholly artificial when he powers up, but it could soften the blow a bit.

I wasnt a fan of Chris Evans, not that I hated him or anything but there was never a point where I felt THATs the human torch. He is Johnny storm. I never like that. I actually never thought that about any of them. I mean Ian Griffin wasn't bad or anything, he was pretty believable I think, and Michael Chiklis was cool, but as I said before on here, I hated the suit and makeup on him and was kinda surprised they didnt change the look for the second one.
We all know the acting and storylines were like "OMG" kinda bad. Who knows what will happen but I think they need to let some time pass before they do another one, which is why i hate when a studio rushes a project, because it ends up ruining it not just for that movie, bu the sequels and however long we have to wait for the reboot.
See, this is what I just don't get. These production companies/studios spend ALL kinds of money making these movies, and they aren't even good. It's one of those things where to me, it honestly feels like they make these movies for the sake of making the movie, to sell merchandise to little kids, and attempt to make a profit. THEN, they want to go back and they want to make more movies, but they have no quality work to build off of. In my opinion, I think they can do better off re-casting all of the characters. If Jessica Alba was meant to play the invisible woman, God wouldn't have made her so gorgeous. But I digress. Casting issues aside, I'm just hoping that a quality film comes out of it. I was a fan of the Hulk re-boot, and the Punisher: Warzone re-boot and enjoy the direction Marvel has been taking their films lately. I was unfortunate enough to see Push this summer, and I can safely say whatever they do, they'll be better off without Evans playing the Johnny Storm role.
