Jeffrey Dean Morgan Close to Joining 'Red Dawn'
Monday, September 14, 2009 at 2:44AM
Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Watchmen's Comedian, might be joining the remake of Red Dawn. He'd play the leader of the Special Forces team who stumbles onto a makeshift military compound run by those clever young survivalists fighting against the growing US invasion.

Perhaps just as important as the casting announcement is a little clarity on the invaders. In the 1984 original, of course, it was the commies that were coming to take over America. In the remake...it's different commies. The Chinese are joining forces with the Russians, according to Variety.
Newcomer Dan Bradley is directing the Red Dawn update, and it's currently filming with a booked opening date of September 10th next year. Man, I hope they don't try to push some tasteless 9/11 marketing tie-in. That would be a horrendous mistake.
MGM is putting a lot of stock in these 80s remakes, with RoboCop and Poltergeist also in the studio's plans. I don't know what can really be gained from a new version of Poltergeist, but the other two films could be really interesting remakes, frankly.
