Monday, September 14, 2009 at 7:41AM New Trailer for Zemeckis' 'A Christmas Carol'
Robert Zemeckis and Disney made official this weekend the speculation that they'd team up to remake (or perhaps re-imagine, to the degree that there is a difference) The Beatles' Yellow Submarine. As an experimental film originally, it is not a huge leap to consider the possibilities of a motion-capture update of the psychedelic musical film a blank canvas for Zemeckis and his pet technology.

We don't have any specifics on when that film will be out, but the technology means it will have a fairly lengthy production phase, so maybe two years. Maybe. In the meantime, Zemeckis and Disney are teaming up on A Christmas Carol, which comes out this November.
With each one of these mo-cap flicks, Zemeckis makes little improvements in the rendering, and while it still looks like animation - otherwise, why bother? - A Christmas Carol is much more lifelike that Beowulf. Still can't get the eyes right, but I suspect they never will. Other than that, the animation looks pretty good.
In addition to looking better than Beowulf, A Christmas Carol is also a better use of the technology in terms of storytelling. I think I would have preferred a live-action Beowulf for all it had to offer, but this movie is probably better off in the animated realm.
It opens November 6th.

It looks very good and hopefully Carrey is not too over-the-top (yes I know long shot there) that the film suffers for it. Considering it for what it is, the eyes aren't so bad in context with everything else.
