Thursday, September 17, 2009 at 7:27AM Mark Millar Already Promising 'Kick-Ass' Sequel
I don't think anyone who has seen the Comic Con footage from Kick-Ass
doubts writer Mark Millar when he says, "We don't want to sound too cocky, but we know this is
good." The Matthew Vaughn-directed comic book adaptation is set to hit theaters next April after
Lionsgate swooped in and picked it up for distribution.

And now we're surely getting a sequel, according to Millar. "It didn't cost that much money to
make. There will definitely be another one."
If you'll recall, studios were initially concerned about the level of violence and profanity in
Kick-Ass because the upstart superhero movie involves a team of crime fighting teenagers.
But the response was so overwhelmingly positive when footage was finally made available that the
film became a very hot property and Vaughn - who financed the film himself - now stands to make a
ton of money upon the theatrical release.
Millar told MTV this week that "there's a basic plot" for a sequel, adding, "The series ends on a
teaser for the next one, and the movie ends on that teaser, too." Well, giddy-up, then.
Really, as far as 2010 films go, there are more movies outside the summer months that have started
to build a foundation with audiences than we'd normally see. Book of Eli, Cabin in the
Woods, possibly still The Wolfman, Shutter Island, Alice in Wonderland, Green Zone,
Clash of the Titans, Nightmare on Elm Street, and this film all open between January and May,
so there's no guarantee that Kick-Ass can rise to the top of peoples' to-do lists. But as
Millar said, it was so cheap, it doesn't really need to in order to be a success.
