Thursday, September 17, 2009 at 2:45AM Ridley Scott Sinks Fangs into New Vampire Movie
Most guys in their 70s are looking to slow down, if they haven't done that
already. But being a Wal-Mart greeter and recreational golfer is not in Ridley Scott's future.
I've never seen him busier as a director and producer. He has about 20 films on his calendar, and
he just added one more.

Scott might direct the film version of Justin Cronin's vampire novel, The Passage, and
Variety reports that Fox 2000 has hired John Logan to adapt the book. Logan, who has
written everything from The Aviator to Gladiator, apparently got paid seven figures
for his services, so I guess the studio is expecting big things.
"Terminally ill patients become healthy after they are bitten by bats in South America, and the
government conducts secret tests on human subjects to see if the virus can cure illness," goes the
synopsis. Then there's a vampire apocalypse, which is really two great tastes that go great
together.
It sounds like something that's certainly in Ridley's wheelhouse, although the book clocks in at
over 1,200 pages. That's excruciating, so Logan is definitely earning his money. Could you imagine
cutting something like that down by about 90% and still keeping the story, character, and
structure intact? Good luck.

Do we need more vampires? I can't walk three feet or turn three channels without seeing some fangs...
This is exactly the kind of vampire we need more of. I am sick to f-ing death of romantic, sexy, kinder and gentler vampires. They are supposed to be the monsters of legend that scare children in the night.
More "30 Days of Night" and less "True Blood"!!
I hope that after Guillermo Del Toro and Chuck Hogan finish their written vampire trilogy (see "The Strain"), they will adapt them into movies. Good stuff!!
Jason nailed it, Amen, enough already with the wussy vamps, bring on the nasty!
I'm all for horror vamps but 30 Days of Night was brutal as was pretty much every vampire flick since Shadow of the Vampire. Hopefully Ridley can do better but I'm not holding my breath. The next Vamp I'm looking forward to seeing is Cassidy in Preacher.
Sometimes less is more.
He should direct more and produce less. Ridley is one of the greats. He can do plot, character and visuals like few others and throw in a good measure of philosophy and action too.
Basically we all wanna see Bladerunner II and what he could do with today's technology...
